More Hidden Risks of EVs

Original Article

An EV will likely not exceed five digits on the odometer because the cost to replace the battery in the typical 10-year span of a battery life will exceed the vehicle’s resale value, therefore making it economically impractical. Other authors have all cited valid facts about the impracticality of charging these things on long trips, the stress they will add to a fragile electric grid, the lack of enthusiasm in this country for adding additional reliable energy power plants, etc. None of this has made me want to rush right out and buy an EV, but just for the sake of developing a more complete picture,

Comments:

He raises many good points. How many years of serious losses will it take before the very real dangers of these inextinguishable EV fires are factored into things like "should they be legal to park in highrise basement parking garages?" They could kill everyone if (when?) the catch fire.
The fire department official response in most places is to stand back and try to keep the fire from spreading. If it's in your garage, the firemen may try to pull it out of the garage, but probably not going to be able to.

I have never owned anything rechargeable-battery powered that didn't see the battery lose some of its power after repeated charges. And it only got worse the more I charged it -- until it got so bad I had to get a new one, or at least a new battery if that was an option. So a brand new Tesla may get 300 miles on a full charge when it is brand new. But after repeated charges for a couple of years, logic and science says that it is going to get much fewer miles on a full charge. And by the time you have had that Tesla 4 or 5 years, I'm guessing you are down to less than 150 miles on a full charge. All I can assume is that they expect EV car owners -- since they are so trendy and hip -- to trade in their cars every couple of years and get a new one. No thanks!!!

Have you seen the semi truck that went through the Ohio River bridge to Louisville last week? Dramatic rescue with much bravery - the cause of the wreck was an ev, purchased the day before, died right in the middle of traffic and caused a pileup. FOX 41 has details. EV's will get you killed.

I have also heard that since it is impossible to fully test the safety/integrity of a battery after a significant collision, insurance companies may need to "total" a vehicle. So, if your EV is hit, the body might be repairable and even some other mechanical damage, but the battery condition may be indeterminable. Maybe the likelihood of fire is increased. The insurance is supposed to return the vehicle to a safe, drivable condition. What is the risk to the insurance company if they "fix" your car and it ignites a month later. What if there is no way for them to tell if the vehicle is really safe? All that increases the cost of insurance and the risk to the driver. What happens if insurance companies determine that EVs are uninsurable because the risks are too high?

Some reality. My model 3 has 50k miles on it, model year 2019, purchased 2020. Roughly 4.5 years. Battery originally 100% charge was 313 miles. Now 288 miles. I don't know where someone gets the idea 150 miles is the right number. The internet is full of publicly available data showing what the battery max is over time across a great many vehicles. Mine is about average. As far as the rest goes, it's a very fast and fun car, almost as sporty as my real sports car I spent twice as much on. It doesn't go as far on a full charge as the sports car does on a tank. It is great for short and medium drives. It doesn't take days to charge (more silliness easily debunked by a t second Google search). The problem with EV's is government mandates. The government should not slam their hand on the market's scale. It's a great car for some people and a terrible car for others. Don't want one? Don't buy one. But all you people saying it's a glorified golf cart have obviously never driven one. Go test drive it. Unless you're driving something very expensive, a baseline model 3 is faster than what you own. Mixing anti-government mandate philosophy with "the government mandates it therefore it just suck and here's my made up stuff about it" is silly.

I own a 2020 Model 3 rear wheel drive standard range battery car. For local driving, my habit is to plug it in every night. Not because I need to, but it just keeps it fully charged. Normal average daily use is 10-15 miles. Usually costs under a dollar to charge. Cost per mile was around 2 cents/mile. My 2011 pickup, which is also personal transportation, costs in excess of 30 cents/mile highway driving, more if used locally. I didn't use the pickup for hauling anything, so I sold it and just bought me a new Model Y. It can pull a trailer, which I have access to, if I need to haul anything. I'm really happy with my decision. I'll be driving from Pittsburgh to Tampa next week. Rather Elon will be driving me, I'll just be watching. :)

Here are the details, from an exclusive report at Daily Mail: Nearly half of all young voters are not willing to pay more than $10 a month to fight climate change, despite Joe Biden claiming it’s an ‘existential threat’ and making it the center of his re-election campaign.

The largest, most devastating dam removal experiment in modern history has reached the point of no return. As of January 23, 2024—despite opposition by a majority of local residents—the four hydroelectric dams on the Klamath River have been officially breached. Ironically, dam removal proponents claimed the project would help salmon, but now the Klamath River is being polluted with millions of cubic yards of decomposed algae, organic deposition, chemicals, and fine silt that has built up behind the dams. Dead steelhead trout and other species are floating to the banks. Any salmon spawning beds in the Klamath River were undoubtedly destroyed.

Greenies’ delusions of intelligence and enlightenment have some very serious real-world consequences, and the environmental fallout of a California dam removal project is a prime example. Here’s the story, shared by Katy Grimes at the California Globe today: Klamath Dam Removal: ‘It’s an Environmental Disaster’ The removal of dams along the Klamath River in Siskiyou County, Northern California was sold as necessary to save salmon – specifically, ‘to restore habitat for endangered fish.’ As Grimes reports, the official plans to demolish the dams were submitted in 2018, but ran into a series of roadblocks over the years; fast-forward to the beginning of last month.

For almost a century, there has been one constant in American politics: Jews vote for Democrats. There are multiple reasons for this fact but, regardless of the reason, the one thing Democrats could rely on was the Jewish vote. However, the Biden administration’s increasingly open hostility to Israel may be changing that pattern. One poll out of New York shows something remarkable: More than 50% of New York’s Jews plan to vote for Donald Trump! When Eastern European Jews came to America, they were escaping tsarist oppression. For them, the opposite of tsarism was Marxism. This binary viewpoint wasn’t unique to them. In pre-WWII England

The recent judgement for fraud against Donald Trump in a New York City Court, in a dollar amount higher than the GNP of some countries despite no one being defrauded, has revealed something many Americans didn’t know: New York State is driving out its most productive, tax-producing citizens and businesses. What happens to a state that, for leftist political reasons, purposely destroys its tax base? What happens to that self-defunding state when its federal Democrat/socialist/communist (D/s/c/) allies open the borders and send tens, even hundreds, of thousands of illegal immigrants to take advantage of the state’s self-imposed sanctuary? New York is finding out, and isn’t much liking it.
