If you thought that the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was the real disaster, you aren’t familiar with the government.
Stephen Green at VodkaPundit notes that, “Could it really take twice as long and four times as much money to replace the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge than it did to build it in the first place? The Key Bridge was built at a cost (adjusted for inflation) of about $200 million. Replacing it could take a decade and cost $400 million to $800 million dollars, according to experts in what has become a dismal field.”
It’ll get worse before it gets better. And that’s assuming that it ever does.

Only totally incompetent fools could POSSIBLY take this long or this much money. The Golden Gate bridge, a far more difficult build took 4 years in the 1930s.
But then again we didn't have the destructive, obstructionist EPA, or racial preferences assuring that incompatents would be hired then.
BS.

Real time and cost? $200 million, 18 months.
Actual time and cost: add DEI and climate penalties: $9 billion and counting and will be finished no sooner than 5 years after the California high speed train is finished and turning a profit.

I agree with #1. These "experts" are idiots. Design the new bridge and build the dam thing. Job done in less than two years. Lefty fools, get off your sorry behinds and get it done. Now. And do it right.

Get all of the governmental agencies out of the way (EPA, DOT, etc). Let the construction companies get the people equipment scheduled properly without more governmental problems. Several years ago, a freeway in AZ had to be re-built end-to-end in Phoenix. The city, state and county governments, the construction companies and unions all came together and got this re-built within a year - something that normally took closer to 5 years. It can be done.

It might have a CHANCE to be built if PDJT were given free reign to bypass the committees who will meet to discuss the preliminary studies and then meet to discuss the findings of the prelim studies and then move to the preliminary impact study and then review the findings of the impact study.
And then meet and vet the architects, engineers, project managers Etcetcetc.

15 years is a longtime, leaving a lot of room in leftist and socialist Democrat run Baltimore for political corrupt operatives and politicians to move in and siphon off a good percentage of federal taxpayer’s money. It is likely the new bridge will be renamed for Biden or some other leftist or socialist Democrat politician, but chances are Biden will not be around to see the bridge completely rebuilt and will not have a chance to ride Amtrak trains over that motor vehicle road bridge when traveling to Delaware as he said he used to do..

If corruption, 'saving' the planet, and social justice take priority over reopening the harbor and building a bridge it will never happen.

2 billion?? Any guesses as to what percent of that will be laundered and redistributed to our betters? PDJT will be back in office in a few months. We know he has a lot of experience building things so I fully expect the bridge will be built in far less time with far less money required.

I'm no engineer, but unless the complete STANDING parts of the bridge are damaged and have to be taken down, it looks like only half the bridge has to be replaced.

Beyond the speculation of time and money to replace that bridge.
Has anyone considered DEI might destroy the city before its completion?

How do the 'Rats deal with their illegal alien union labor? The AFL-CIO is as much there as the administraion, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Mexican cartels. On the same side, enemies. The union leaders are solid Democrat, their membership not nearly as much.

Those numbers are insane, but possible with execution by DEI, ESG, affirmative action, and, “woke,” design and construction teams, administered by the state and federal governments.

Get Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden to build it, it will be done in eight months and cost less than the original one. AND it will carry rail traffic too, so Biden won't be lying next time when he says he rode the train over it .
And when a ship runs into the Taggart-Rearden-Key Bridge, the ship will just bounce off.

Sounds like the Government doesn't want it fixed. If they control the currency and the supply lines, they control you. And why do the taxpayers need to pay for it? If the ship is at fault, shouldn't they pay for it? And why should we build a bridge in a bad location. This could happen again. Maybe a tunnel would be better so shipping wouldn't interfere. This whole story is fishy.

FIRST and foremost, clear access to the harbor. That is of more immediate importance than road traffic. At the same time, create a plan of detours for the road traffic on alternate routes and fortify rail transfers. Once goods are again flowing as freely as possible, worry about the bridge.

Don't forget the new bridge must be made of SOLID GOLD...with a few other metals thrown in just to make it stand on it's own...of course those that Build it and the Politicians that pay the bill will be super rich at the end of the project. Then THAT bridge will fail/fall on it's own when a 15 mph wind comes up.
