Paramount’s Debt Rating Downgraded to
‘Junk’ Status as Cable TV Subscriptions Plunge

Original Article

Hollywood studio Paramount Global has been downgraded to junk status by S&P, which cited the ongoing plunge in cable TV subscriptions as the reason for the credit rating change. Paramount — which owns numerous linear TV properties including CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, and Comedy Central — is facing a dire economic forecast that is shared by other legacy studios. American households continue to cut the cords by the millions, depriving studios of lucrative carriage fees. At the same time, TV advertising revenue is plunging due to weak consumer sentiment tied to historic levels of inflation brought about by the Biden administration.

Comments:

I didn't even know that CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, and Comedy Central were still around. It's not all Joe's economy, though. People are tired of crappy entertainment.

We cut the "cable" and now watch what we want to using Paramount+ streaming. There are some really well-written and acted shows from years ago out there just waiting to be enjoyed rather than the crap served up today. Some technical aspects might be missing but treat yourself to watching shows like the original Mission:Impossible and both Hawaii 5-O shows as well as others you once ENJOYED watching just to name a few.

I cut the cable many years ago and more and more often, I find myself watching older shows on the streaming services. Moonlighting, Hawaii 50, Miami Vice, Cheers and the original I Love Lucy are all still as good as ever.

Maybe someone will buy them and put actual entertainment or real news or something worth watching on each channel. Nickelodeon isn't appropriate for kids. MTV hasn't been a music channel in decades. Comedy Central isn't funny. And CBS? Never mind, can't be saved by anyone. Kill it.

On the Christian calendar, this Sunday is Easter, a revered Holy Day for Christians celebrating the resurrection of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when his tomb was found empty, three days after his execution by crucifixion commanded by the Roman Empire. Even in secular society, the day is celebrated with colored eggs and baskets filled with strange plastic grass and bunny-shaped chocolate confections, and the iconic, American candy gems known as jellybeans. Easter Sunday is not only an extremely significant Christian holiday, it is also a family-oriented tradition. President Joe Biden is being pressed to use the reconstruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore as an opportunity to remedy alleged racial discrimination against blacks in the construction industry. Biden said this week that he had told his administration officials to “move heaven and earth” to reopen the port of Baltimore and rebuild the bridge. The reconstruction efforts, however, may be complicated by demands that the project further leftwing ideas about racial justice, the treatment of immigrants, climate change, and wealth redistribution. An op-ed in The Hill underscores that some of these demands may be irreconcilable.

The crime problem in New York City's subways has become legendary over the past few years, fueled in part by the invasion of illegal migrants flooding the city. The Governor and the Mayor have already sent in the National Guard and the State Police in an attempt to combat the problem. Now the Metropolitan Transit Department and the NYPD have announced that an additional 800 uniformed police officers will be heading into the tunnels. But their focus won't initially be on the knife-wielding muggers or the maniacs shoving people onto the tracks. They will be dispatched to the subway platforms to watch out for turnstile jumpers

At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade - and others are considering joining them. Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation. The rule, which was first adopted by California, means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards. Americans will not be forced to take their gas-powered cars off the road, however, and will still be able to buy used and secondhand gas vehicles. These states have gone further
